About The Conference

HEALTH AND WELLNESS FOR ALL AGES

The Department of Research and Development (R & D) at Islamabad Medical & Dental College (IMDC) is pleased to announce the 2nd Annual Research Conference on “health and wellness for all ages” scheduled for 25th and 26th September, 2019. The theme of the conference is based on Goal 3 (https://bit.ly/2PVUr5m) of the 2030 Agenda for Sustainable Development, adopted by all United Nations Members in 2015. The Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs), otherwise known as the Global Goals, are a universal call to action to protect the planet and ensure that all people enjoy peace and prosperity. They are a blueprint to achieve a better and more sustainable future for all by addressing the global challenges we face. The conference is designed to facilitate sharing of knowledge and experience of various health related disciplines through workshops, and oral/poster presentations. The first day of the conference (25th September) is dedicated to the Pre-Conference workshops facilitated by international and national specialists in their respective fields. Oral and poster presentation competition scheduled for September 26, aims at setting a platform for all budding scientists and researchers to present their work and share views related to their field of interest. Advance registration is required for workshops as well as oral/poster presentations. Students from all medical/dental/allied health sciences colleges and universities in Pakistan and abroad are invited to participate in this academic activity.

Day 1, September 25, 2019

Pre Conference Workshops

The first day of the conference (25th September) will be dedicated to Pre-Conference workshops, for which advance registration is required. The workshops will be facilitated by international and national specialists in their fields.

DAY 2, September 26, 2019

Oral & Poster Presentations

The Oral and Poster presentation competition scheduled for 26th September, aims at setting a platform for all budding scientists and researchers to present their work and share views related to their field of interest. The oral and poster presentations will be followed by the closing ceremony with prize distribution and addresses by the Principal, Guest of Honor, Dean, MD and the Chairman IMDC.

Workshop # 1

“Patient and Professional Safety”

Facilitator: Professor Dr. Naila Siddiqui (Imperial College, UK)

The objectives of this workshop will be to cover the United Nations Sustainable Development Goals, discuss Pakistan’s health and well-being issues and it’s digital index, give examples of solutions that can mitigate the local challenges both in delivery of care and education, and discuss role of disruptive technologies in mitigating global health challenges.

Workshop # 2

“Psychiatry for Non-Psychiatrists”

Facilitator: Professor Dr. Fareed A Minhas (Consultant Psychiatrist)

This interactive session will cover the topics such as “The Mental Health Gap”, the myth that “Only specialists can deal with mental health disorders”, the need for non-specialists in psychiatry, identification of priority mental health disorders, basic management of Priority Mental Health Disorders and when to refer psychiatric patients to specialist facilities.

Workshop # 3

“HIV Infection - A Clinician’s Perspective”

Facilitator: Professor Dr. Rizwan Qazi (Department of Medicine, ANTH)

This interactive session will cover the topics such as basics of HIV infection with special discussion on “Why HIV is a fatal Infection?” myths about HIV transmission in hospital setting, when to suspect HIV infection? HIV in children and pregnant females, Post exposure prophylaxis (PEP) with ARVs (anti-retroviral drugs) in non-HIV etc.

Workshop # 4

“Data management through SPSS”

Facilitator: Professor Dr. Farah Rashid

This interactive workshop with hands-on experience will enable the participants to classify different types of data and variables, to apply and interpret various statistical tests of significance and to operate SPSS software efficiently in data management and analysis.

* Participants are required to bring their laptops with SPSS (any version) installed.

Workshop # 5

“Basic Dental Implantology – A hands-on experience”

Facilitators: Dr. Khalid M Siddiqi, Professor Dr. Tayyaba Saleem, Dr. Mudasser Saleem, Dr. Zeeshan Baig, Dr. M Jamal, Dr. Abdul Manan

This workshop will enable the participants to recognize different parts of dental implant and implant placement kit, to prepare treatment plan of patient requiring dental implants, demonstrate surgical protocols in dental implant placement, place dental implant on typodonts and to perform different impression techniques for dental implants.
